
DeWitt first performed on stage when she was 13. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree at Ball State University. The director encouraged her to join UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program. She was awarded the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship and the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt claimed that she never had a conversation with Abe Vigoda during her time at UCLA. DeWitt's character as Janet Wood in Three's Company's 1977-84 series is among her most famous. She was chosen to play the show's pilot and then was hired. She also portrayed Janet in an episode from 1979 on the spinoff show The Ropers. After Three's Company ended in 1984, DeWitt appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in 1984 following which she resigned from acting for several years. In June 1991 she came back to acting, playing the role of Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] She later appeared in the 1995 TV comedy film Spring Fling! Pinky and the Brain aired an episode in 1997 that featured the character that was based off her. It was voiced in part by another actress. She was featured in an episode of Cybill and made a brief appearance on Living Single's penultimate episode. Her 2000s work include TV shows like Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special and Call of the Wild.
